Squarespace, Twitter, iPhone - Oh My!
Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 2:33PM A very remarkable little campaign is occurring on Twitter right now. Squarespace who provides highly automated, powerful web hosting and site building services is giving away 30 iPhones over 30 days. What is very interesting is how Squarespace is using Twitter to spread the word about their contest.
What is tremendously powerful is how Squarespace is using the power of Twitter and real-time social networking to their benefit. Not only is the company using the public's interest in the upcoming iPhone to increase awareness of their company, but their contest is also using a Twitter hashtag with their company name. The use of this hashtag is generating a trending topic in Twitter for not only iPhone but their company as well. The great thing about this use is how much interest it generates from the people in Twitter. This interest is more than likely going to translate into some number of new customers for Squarespace.
For instance thanks to PeopleBrowsr here is how their hashtag activity is doing in Twitter for the past 24 hours as of 6/10/2009 3pm Pacific...
As can be seen in this graph, the #squarespace is doing pretty well. Since Squarespace has announced their contest on June 8th, they have also done quite well in terms of overall Twitter activity...
The interest growth is very high. It would be very interesting to see the actual traffic increases to their website and a corresponding increase in their subscriptions from this traffic.
I am very impressed with how Squarespace has managed to blend social networking into their company positioning and promotions. I also find it surprising that AT&T, Apple's partner in the iPhone is not using the same interest in the iPhone to do some sort of similar promotion or contest about other services that they could be offering to their customers.
Only time will tell if their efforts will reflect the life cycle of most twitter activity or if they have successfully found a way to increase brand awareness. Regardless bravo Squarespace! Well done!
